Reconciliation and time in the framework of equality policy

THE COMPANY
Barcelon Activa is the organisation that implements the economic promotion policies of Barcelona City Council.

ORGANISATION AND USE OF TIME
The reduction of the working day for childcare with 100% of the salary and the application of the substitution procedure stand out. The measure has a maximum duration of one year from the end of maternity leave, adoption or fostering. The procedure is included in the Quality System and establishes a protocol for substitutions for reduced working hours for the care of minor children and in cases of legally recognised disability.

GOOD PRACTICES
Reduced and compressed working hours, flexible holiday schedule, substitution of staff on leave, ticket for afternoon working days, training on gender equality issues.

NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO BENEFIT
All persons who want to take care of their children during the first year after birth, adoption or fostering. In 2013, 33 women and 6 men took advantage of the measure, and 9 people were hired to cover the reduced working hours.

IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS
The implementation was carried out in 2008 within the framework of the Equality Policy. The management and the Works Committee established a set of 24 measures to promote the reconciliation of personal, family and working life.
