Institut Català d'Oncologia
The Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) is a public and specialized cancer center. It deals with the disease in a comprehensive manner since it brings together, within the same organization, prevention, care, specialized training, and research. The ICO is a public company created in 1995 by the Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia, which begins to operate a year later at the facilities of the Duran i Reynals Hospital in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. Seven years later, in 2002, the ICO Girona is inaugurated, at the Doctor Josep Trueta Hospital, and the following year, the ICO Badalona, at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital. In 2014, the ICO Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre is launched at the Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona and the Verge de la Cinta in Tortosa. Currently, the ICO is the reference oncological center for more than 40% of the adult population in Catalonia.
The institution has the distinction of being an equality in the workplace company of the Government of Spain in terms of equality.
