Uses of Time

» The Time Agreement will offer a training pill to raise awareness about the relationship between time use and inequalities, while also offering practical tools to reduce them.

Time uses are not an individual issue, but are socially and politically determined. This is the reason why the time distribution of each individual reproduces, quite often, gender, age, race or social status inequalities. Nevertheless, time is seldom identified as an inequality issue.

The Time Agreement will offer the training pill “Time and inequalities”, next 21st June 2023. It is aimed at organizations that have an interest in better understanding the relationship between societal time organization and inequalities, as well as those that want to act to reduce these inequalities.

During the training, the existing inequalities in our society and how they impact time use will be analyzed from an intersectional perspective. To do that, the concept of time poverty will be used, as an additional dimension to poverty measurement, that adds to other aspects such as the economic one.

Nevertheless, it is not only about understanding the issue, but the training also aims to bring potential ways to improve and transform this reality. There will be discussions around both societal initiatives to tackle the issue, from public administrations, social stakeholders and civil society; and actions executed at the organization or individual level.

In this training the following issues will be covered:

• Intersectional inequalities, where the intersectional perspective on inequality and how to apply it will be discussed.
• Time use impacts, where an analysis of how the different inequalities affect people’s temporal organization will be discussed, using the intersectional perspective.
• Practical examples of time policies to reduce inequality, both on the sociopolitical arena and the organizations and individual level. During that last part, a practical debate will be held amongst participants.

The training pill will take place on June 21st, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It is free of charge and in virtual format. The language used will be catalan.
