»Strasbourg takes the lead from Bolzano and Barcelona as the World Capital of Time Policies 2024-2025, developing its agenda of activities to promote new time uses on a global scale

On March 25, the municipality of Bolzano hosted the award ceremony for the title of World Capital of Time Policies in the French city of Strasbourg, in an event attended by Marina Lafay, councillor in charge of time policies. In this sense, Strasbourg plans to develop activities around the promotion of a healthier, more egalitarian, efficient and sustainable organization of time during the period 2024-2025.

The Capital is a title awarded by the Local and Regional Governments Time Network in 2022 in Barcelona, ​​​​which recognized Barcelona as the first World Capital of Time Policies during 2022-2023, for its long history of promoting time policies since 2003, with the creation of the first Department of Time Use in the Spanish State. A trajectory that was consolidated with the creation of the renowned NUST Business Network – a Network of companies for a new working time, to share and make visible good practices between companies and with the first Time Pact, a city agreement to promote a healthier, more equal, efficient and sustainable use of time, in 2014.

In 2023, Barcelona passed the baton to Bolzano, where events and conferences have been organized to raise awareness of the value of time and the right to self-determination. The activities concluded this March 2024 with the third edition of Time Week. Now Strasbourg is taking the lead as World Capital of Time Policies 2024-2025, developing its agenda of activities.

On 28 and 29 November, the main events of the World Capital will take place in Strasbourg, with a meeting at the European Parliament of representatives of the Local and Regional Governments Time Network with MEPs and local authorities, to raise the main challenges and solutions to advance the right to time at a European level, as well as various public events taking place in the city.

The Local and Regional Governments Time Network
The Local and Regional Governments TIme Network was created in Barcelona in 2008, initially as the European Cities for Time Policies Network. It is currently known as the Local and Regional Governments Time Network and comprises cities such as Barcelona, ​​​​Bogotá, Bolzano, Milan, Strasbourg and the collaboration of hundreds of organizations.

The objective of the Network is to share knowledge among its members through the exchange of experiences, learning and good practices in time policies to promote them internationally. Therefore, the network is open to cities and metropolitan regions worldwide.

The concept “World Capital of Time Policies” was created to generate greater awareness and give greater visibility to time policies, as well as connect with citizens.

The next Assembly of the Local and Regional Governments Time Network will take place in Barcelona on October 21 within the framework of Time Use Week 2024.
