The communion of Pilar Nieto in Nou Barris
The home-made film of the communion of the Nieto Alcaraz offers an insight into the everyday life in the Nou Barris of the 1960s. The family originally came from Ciutat Vella who in those years moved to carrer de Platja d’Aro in Trinitat Nova, which was a monumental change from the urban centre to a new area with no transport and dirt roads. This is how it appears in this home-made film which, in reality, is much more than that: it is an exceptional testimony to the life in that neighbourhood. It is a rediscovered periphery thanks to the kind gesture of Pilar Nieto, the girl in the communion, who recently decided to give a copy of the recording to the Municipal Archive of the District of Nou Barris. Aware of how unlikely it was to have recordings of the neighbourhood in those years, as it was very unusual to own a camera, the archive will become the custodian of this unique memory.
