The race took place yesterday in the Torre Diagonal One Building and is the brainchild of the Cultural and Sports Association of Barcelona Firefighters. A popular race was also held with about seventy people involved (including some firefighters without equipment). 130 people took part in total.
When it came to the first modality, the specific test for professional firefighters, sixty firefighters climbed the Torre Diagonal One Building’s 24 floors with 18.5 kilos of the whole E-2 + ERA intervention equipment on them: gloves, helmet, bottle of air, mask, back protector, etc.
Firefighters from Barcelona, the Generalitat de Catalunya, Aena, the City Council, the Community of Madrid, Zaragoza and Toledo took part.
The popular race started off once the firefighters got to the roof, and seventy people also ran up the 110 metres of vertical drop to the 24th floor.
Vertical climbs are thorough tests that take you your cardiorespiratory limit, as well as being a full exertion of technique and strength.
