The city’s firefighting corps took part in a photo session for the “Bombers amb causa” solidarity calendar for 2023. The shoot took place yesterday in the Parc de Montjuïc and featured Pau, an 11-year-old patient at the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu who has just 5% vision. The session gave him first-hand experience of a day in the life of a firefighter.
The goal of the initiative is to generate a bond of understanding between the firefighting corps and children, helping them to enjoy a day where water is the common theme. The photographer and photojournalist Montse Giralt was tasked with capturing the images of these unforgettable moments for Pau.
The money raised from the calendar sales will be used to fund the “Bombers amb causa” research grant, awarded by the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu for research into children’s illnesses, and also to support projects for children at risk of exclusion at other Sant Joan Déu centres.
The Catalan Fire Service and Obra Social de Sant Joan de Déu have been collaborating on this solidarity project since 2011, following an initiative by three volunteer firefighters from the Catalan corps to raise funds for research into children’s illnesses. As in recent years, the Barcelona Fire Service, the Andorran Fire Service and the Aranese Fire Service also took part.
