Safety and prevention. This activity is linked to the exhibition “Protecting Barcelona. Firefighters and fire prevention 1833-2022”.

Barcelona’s firefighters are ready to act in cases of NRBC incidents (nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical), given the potential risks they pose. Members of the corps gave a demonstration on Saturday, 25 November, outside the MUHBA Oliva Artés, in the Parc del Centre del Poblenou.

Various firefighters from the corps simulated a leak from a chemical product in a barrel and carried out an exercise to recognise and assess the situation, block the leak, seal the barrel and decontaminate those who intervene.

This display is linked to the exhibition “Protecting Barcelona. Firefighters and fire prevention 1833-2022”, which explains how fire prevention measures have been applied in the city from when the Barcelona Fire Service was created in 1833 through to the present day. The exhibition has been extended until 14 January, with activities every fortnight in November and December. For more information, go to the exhibition website (in Catalan).
