Safety and prevention. There’s a chance to visit the centre and take part in guided activities for free on 8 and 9 October.

The weekend of 8 and 9 October brings the second edition of “Viu Montjuïc”, an initiative to open up the Parc de Montjuïc to the general public and offer nature and quality free time to everybody, with the collaboration of thirty local facilities.

Espai Bombers is one of the promoters for the initiative and is taking part by offering good practice on fire prevention. Under the supervision of the Institut Botànic de Barcelona and the Jardí Botànic de Barcelona, the Barcelona Fire Service and the Associació d’Amics del Jardí Botànic de Barcelona are organising an activity based around the ecology of fire.

The activity consists of an itinerary for people to follow around the botanical gardens and go through one of the pine woods on the mountain, ending up at the PREvenim fire prevention vehicle belonging to the Barcelona Fire Service. The 90-minute activity looks at the issue of fire, introducing some of the main tips on prevention, such as how to react in an emergency. The activity requires participants to book in advance and will be held on 8 and 9 October in two sessions, one at 10 am and the other at 12 noon.

In addition, like every first Saturday of the month, on 8 October the Espai Bombers will be offering a guided tour around its facilities, while on Sunday there’s a family workshop at 11.30 am, aimed at families with children aged between 6 and 12. Through the pieces on display at the museum and audio-visual resources, the centre will explain the figure of the firefighter and their work down through history and through to the present day.

Besides its museum space, the centre also has various classrooms for information sessions, training and school workshops on safety and prevention.
