Garrido, 28, lost his life rescuing a child on 26 February 2010. The street which will now bear his name is in the same location as the former factory where the accident happened.
José Garrido Gámez, born in Barcelona in 1981, died while in service in 2010 as the result of an accident when he was trying to rescue a child from a transformer station on the site of the old Cobega factory.
His is one of the names given to the three streets created on the site of the factory, specifically the one connecting Ca n’Oliva to Camí de la Verneda. The Barcelona Fire Service made the proposal to include the name of the firefighter José Garrido in the city’s street name index, with approval being given in June 2021. Margarita (Gretel) Ammann Martínez and Dolores (Lola) Iturbe Arizcuren are the other two names given to the streets in this vicinity of Sant Martí.
