Safety and prevention. The money raised will be used for research into child illnesses and support projects for children at risk of social exclusion.

The thirteenth edition of this solidarity initiative was presented on Monday, 13 November, with the Barcelona Fire Service, the Catalan and Andorran firefighting corps and the Pompièrs d’Aran all taking part. The money raised will be used to fund projects linked to health and childhood.

During the ceremony, a cheque was presented for the 99,000 euros raised through solidarity activity in 2023, which will be used to help fund new projects by the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and provide continuity for five social projects from previous years. For details on these projects go to the website Bombers amb Causa.

The Espai Bombers is actually one of the places where the Bombers amb Causa 2024 calendar is on sale. It can also be purchased at various fairs and open-air activities where the fire services take part, as well as the online shop for Obra Social Sant Joan de Déu, the Abacus cooperative, some fire stations and various local establishments.  The calendar will also soon be on sale at fire stations in Barcelona. It can be purchased on their website too.

Self-protection and prevention as the thread

As usual, the calendar involved thirteen photo shoots with children receiving hospital treatment at the Sant Joan de Déu de Barcelona and the Sant Joan de Déu Terres de Lleida, pictured with firefighters from the four corps taking part in the project. The images illustrate the risk of exclusion for children with disabilities or who suffer an illness or mental disorder. The thread for this year’s calendar is firefighters’ self-protection, their work and the elements they use for protection.

In the case of the Barcelona Fire Service, there were two sessions, at the Llevant and Zona Franca fire stations. The protagonists were Matilde and Pau, who spent a fun day out helping firefighters with some of their regular tasks.
