The five-day campaign was held at the Espai Bombers and the hospitals of Sant Pau, Clínic and Vall d’Hebron. There were also nearly a hundred offers, in other words people who also went to donate but in the end were unable to give blood.
The campaign got under way at the education and dissemination centre for the corps, where nearly fifty people gave blood. Volunteers from the fire service also donated, as they did at some of the participating hospitals. Members of staff from the corps were present with a vehicle outside the hospitals, encouraging people to donate and accompanying those who did so.
This campaign is an initiative by Bombers Solidaris de Barcelona, Bombers amb Cor (the solidary collective from the Catalan Fire Service) and the Blood and Tissue Bank.
Platelets, one of the elements extracted in each blood donation, expire after five days, while red blood cells last 42 days. Because of this, blood donations are needed all year round. You can give blood at various hospitals in the city and other towns and cities in Catalonia. For details check here. You can also find more information on the conditions for giving blood here.
