Nearly 300 firefighters will be taking part in this year’s firefighters’ run this Sunday, with the Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona now in its 23rd edition. This is the first time in recent years that the run is to go ahead in normal conditions, with no type of health restrictions.

In all, 267 firefighters will be taking part in the run, 175 of them (166 men and 9 women) from the city’s own firefighting corps. Of these, 53 will be running in sports gear and the rest in their firefighting gear. The other firefighters taking part come from other corps: 70 from the Catalan government’s fire service, 9 from the Aeroport del Prat and 13 from the rest of the state.

The Vueling Cursa de Bombers de Barcelona gets under way with a symbolic start for the team of firefighters in Av. Marquès de l’Argentera at 8.50 am. The rest of the runners will set off in starting groups at 9 am.

The design on the t-shirt marks the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, one of the most important events in the city’s history.

Solidarity challenges and firefighters

This 23rd edition of the firefighters’ run will again be collaborating with the foundation Mi Grano de Arena, the idea being that the sports event is also a solidarity challenge for runners.

Through the foundation, anybody taking part can create a challenge and set a fundraising goal to help non-profit organisations in different sectors: health, medical investigation, social exclusion, international cooperation, childhood, environment etc. In all, over 13,000 euros has been raised for the 11 solidarity firefighter challenges promoted on the site migranodearena.org.
