The first competitive exams are being held on Saturday, 16 March, for the 128 places with the police corps and the 60 places with the Civil Protection, Prevention, Fire extinction and Rescue Service (SPCPEIS), in a process with the highest percentage of women applicants to date.
In the case of the City Police, women account for 36.3% of the candidates. All applicants will have to pass a cultural and theoretical test, an aptitude test, a foreign language test and part of the personality and skills test.
In the selection process for the Fire Service, women account for 17.6% of applicants. In this case, the exams will test knowledge of a general syllabus, knowledge of a specific syllabus, tests on personality, skills and foreign languages. The process for places with the SPCPEIS is one of the most demanding in the civil service, with nine tests making up the competitive entrance process in all.
Those who pass the entrance process for the City Police will start the basic police training course organised by the Police School of Catalonia (EPC), operated by the Institute for Public Security of Catalonia (ISPC) in September. Fire Service candidates will start the selection course at the ISPC before the end of the year.
The call for these places backs up the commitment to security and the protection of Barcelona’s inhabitants. The City Police currently has a record 3,400 officers, while the Fire Service has over 760 firefighters.
