The eighth Solidarity Nautical Mile is being held at the Bogatell beach (next to the Nautical Base) on Sunday, 30 June, at 10 am. Everybody is welcome to come and watch the 600 plus swimmers who have so far signed up to take part in the event.
Organised every year by the Agrupació Cultural i Esportiva dels Bombers de Barcelona, this non-competitive swim (no prizes for winners) lasts two hours, with participants taking on whichever distance they choose: half a nautical mile, or one, two or three nautical miles.
Online registration is open until two hours before the start of the event, or until a thousand participants are registered. The cost is 15 euros, with all the money going to Associació Espanyola de Linfangioleiomiomatosis. Lymphangioleiomyomatosis is a little-known disease that mainly affects women. This same link also allows visitors to make a donation with taking part in the event.
Swimmers aged from 14 upwards and able to cover their chosen distance can take part (minors need parental permission). The rules for taking part are available here.
