The Barcelona Fire Service carries out over 300 rescue operations every year to assist people in high locations and complex environments. The service has vehicles with ladders, rescue trucks and ambulances for this purpose. In an initiative to show the general public what these operations consist of, the Barcelona Fire Service is organising a display outside the MUHBA Oliva Artés on Saturday, 4 March, at 12 noon.
The display will simulate an operation to rescue a worker in trouble at height at the museum. A workmate will call 112 to report the emergency, which will then be handled by the Barcelona Fire Service.
All firefighters and medical staff have the training, knowledge and practical experience needed to carry out rescue procedures in high places. The idea behind the display is to raise awareness about everything this type of situation involves, and the need to adopt the right safety conditions.
If you’d like to know more about rescuing people from high places, the vehicles, techniques and materials needed to do so successfully, come along to the MUHBA Oliva Artés this Saturday!
This activity is linked to the exhibition “Protecting Barcelona. Firefighters and fire prevention 1833-2022”, which explains how fire prevention measures have been applied in the city from when the Barcelona Fire Service was created through to the present day. The exhibition is on at the MUHBA Oliva Artés until 30 June.
