New City Police campaign to improve the safety of school transport

05/06/2023 - 08:00 h

Safety and prevention. The campaign will be in place all week.

The campaign will check that school transport complies with safety requirements and all the other administrative conditions regulating this activity.

Checks will be made on all types of transport used to get pupils to and from school, the goal being to reduce the involvement of these vehicles in traffic accidents.

The campaign gets under way today and will run all week, paying particular attention to infringements linked to:

  • Administrative conditions for vehicles: licences held by drivers, specific operating permits for school transport etc.
  • Service provision conditions: occupancy, time spent driving and resting, presence of another person when obligatory, compliance with set routes, use of safety belts etc.
  • Technical conditions for vehicles: documentation of vehicles, technical inspections, condition of tyres, existence of first-aid kit and fire extinguishers, state of emergency exits etc.

The campaign will prioritise areas around schools, but will also apply in all city roads (including ring roads). Checks will also centre on school entrance and exit times.
