Safety and prevention. The operation will be in place from today until Sunday.

The City Police launched this citywide campaign today, which will be in place until Sunday and forms part of Barcelona City Council’s local road safety plan. The overall goal is to reduce the number of road accidents and the number of victims.

The operation entails preventive checkpoints and has the specific goals of:

  • Preventing and detecting as many drivers as possible who test positive.
  • Adopting suitable corrective measures to reduce the risks posed by drink-driving or drug-driving.

The campaign will also correct infringements relating to non-cooperation when requested to take a breathalyser or drug-driving test.

Testing will also target people riding motorcycles or mopeds, a particularly vulnerable group among whom accident numbers have risen in recent years.

Road accident victims can be avoided, something we need to be more aware of so that riders, drivers and pedestrians become more involved in achieving the goal of halving mortalities and serious injuries, as set out in the Road Safety Strategy 2030, the objective being to achieve zero mortalities by 2050.
