Speed-monitoring campaign

31/07/2023 - 14:46 h

Safety and prevention. The Guàrdia Urbana measure will be active throughout the week.

This campaign from Barcelona’s Guàrdia Urbana [city police] which is being activated today is EU in its scope. Its aim is to reduce traffic accidents and the harmful consequences to those affected. Any form of driving involving excessive or improper speeds putting the lives of public-thoroughfare users at risk will therefore be monitored and reported.

Speed monitors are being installed above all in thoroughfares in the city where speed-related accidents have occurred and in areas where specific problems relating to excessive speeds have been detected.

It is therefore important to note that speed is one of the commonest contributing factors in traffic accidents.

In addition, special emphasis will be put on speeds affecting the safety of pedestrians, with units deployed in 30 km/hour zonesinverted-priority zones and single-platform streets.

Radar equipment will be used for this purpose and attempts will be made, wherever possible, for drivers to be informed in situ of their traffic violation.

The campaign starts today and finishes on Sunday, 6 August.
