Safety and prevention. A speech explained the experience of the City Police and the Fire Service in initiatives that build in the gender perspective.

Barcelona City Council’s Manager for the Area of Safety, Prevention and Coexistence, Maite Casado, gave a speech at the Spanish Forum for Urban Security and Prevention (FEPSU) on Tuesday, 13 March. For their part, the City Police took part in some exercises with the Counter Terrorism Preparedness Network (CTPN) in London, ending on Friday, 15 March.

Casado took part in a regular meeting on safety and gender, presenting initiatives that build in the gender perspective to share knowledge about their importance in safety policies. The manager’s speech was entitled “Local experience of the Barcelona City Police and Fire Service”, and focused on initiatives carried out by both corps.

As part of the CTPN in London, Major Intendent Jordi Guerrero, head of the coordination division of the City Police, and Inspector Iban Torras, head of the UREP, took part in some exercises to share knowledge, experiences and practices to prepare for, respond to and recover from a terrorist attack. The scenario was based on countering and responding to hostile drones.

The FEPSU, an association of municipalities and local organisations to defend and promote public safety and prevention policies, and the CTPN, an international collaboration network to analyse the actions of cities which have suffered a terrorist attack, are just two of the prevention and safety networks that Barcelona City Council participates in.
