Safety campaign for motorbikes and mopeds

21/07/2025 - 08:10 h

Safety and prevention. The goal is to reduce accidents and the number of victims.

Motorcycle and moped riders are the group most at risk of suffering traffic accidents on the city’s roads, with figures showing they are four times more likely to have an accident than those getting around by car.

Because of this, the City Police are starting a special week-long enforcement campaign from today, with two sides to it. Firstly, to reduce accidents involving motorcycles and mopeds and the number of victims, and secondly, to ensure that the use of these types of vehicles complies with circulation regulations.

Officers will be paying attention to reckless riding and situations that generate risk, particularly:

  • Correct use of helmets by riders and pillion passengers alike.
  • Distractions such as the use of mobiles.
  •  Pavements near schools and hospitals.
  • Circulation in bus, taxi or cycle lanes.
  • Inappropriate turns.
  • Sudden manoeuvres.
  • Not respecting traffic signs.
  • Inappropriate overtaking.
  • Circulation between vehicles.
  • Infringements linked to the documentation of vehicles and riders.

Reckless riding may lead to fines of up to 500 euros.

The City Police are working to achieve the goal of halving fatalities and serious injuries, as set out in the Road Safety Strategy 2030, with a view to achieving zero fatalities by 2050.
