Safety and Prevention. The measure will remain in force throughout the week and put special attention on ‘trixies’ and shops dedicated to renting out PMVs.

Barcelona’s city police are running a campaign this week to control personal mobility vehicles (PMVs). Launched yesterday, it aims to ensure the proper use of these vehicles and cycles with more than two wheels, by ensuring they comply with their respective traffic rules.

The proliferation of PMVs seen over the last few years, such as electric scooters, segways and hoverboards, has had an impact on interactions with pedestrians and all other vehicle users in public highways.

Barcelona’s Guàrdia Urbana [city police] have launched this campaign to ensure positive community life and control any form of potentially risky behaviour that may jeopardise people’s safety. The aim is to have a direct effect on reducing not just the number of accidents that PMVs are involved in but also the number of victims arising from them and the seriousness of their injuries.

More specifically, the police will be not only checking the proper use and driving of PMVs and cycles with more than two wheels but also controlling the obligations that pedestrians and drivers of other types of motor vehicle are subject to regarding PMV drivers.

In addition, special attention will be given to C1-type PMVs used for economic activity in the city and priority to the city’s coastline (trixies), as well as shops specialising in renting out PMVs, bicycles and cycles with more than two wheels.
