On Wednesday, 31 December, the New Year's Eve celebration organised by the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) will be held in the Montjuïc monument area.
The New Year’s Eve celebrations on 31 December will feature a spectacular show with music, fireworks and 500 drones, with the midnight bell chimes as the main event. A crane carrying a glowing light ball will be set up in Plaça Puig i Cadafalch.
The event will conclude after the midnight chimes and fireworks, but ambient music will play for a further 45 minutes to ensure the crowd can exit safely.
Road closures
Avinguda Reina Maria Cristina will be closed to traffic from 7:00 pm on 31 December — or earlier if necessary due to overcrowding. Avinguda Rius i Taulet and Avinguda Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia will also be closed between Carrer de la Guàrdia Urbana and Carrer de Mèxic.
From 8:00 pm, traffic will be diverted from:
- Vehicles entering the city via Gran Via.
- The side nearest the sea of Gran Via, at Sant Germà.
- Carrer de Mèxic, heading downhill.
- Plaça Espanya, entering from Creu Coberta and Tarragona.
- Avinguda Paral·lel, heading uphill.
- Vilamarí.
From 9pm, traffic will be diverted to: Carrer de Tarragona, Creu Coberta (heading towards Plaça Espanya), Diputació, Gran Via (side nearest the mountain), Entença-Sepúlveda, Entença-Diputació, Entença-Aragó, Vilamarí-Aragó and Tarragona-València.
To ensure attendees can exit safely at the end of the celebration, traffic restrictions will come into effect at around 11:40 pm at the following locations:
- The central lane of Gran Via, from Plaça Cerdà to the tunnel entrance at Plaça Espanya.
- Lleida–Avinguda Rius i Taulet, preventing vehicles from accessing Avinguda Paral·lel.
These restrictions will remain in place until traffic can safely return to normal.
