Barcelona City Council has been part of the network since it was set up in 2018. Representatives from the City Police and the municipal Directorate for Prevention are attending the meeting.

The annual meeting by the Counter Terrorism Preparedness Network (CTPN) gets under way today in Washington. Representatives from the City Police and the municipal Directorate for Prevention will be taking part in the activities being organised over three days:

  • Meeting by the strategic committee of the CTPN
  • Lecture centring on disinformation and extremism, organised by the CTPN in collaboration with the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency in Washington.
  • Practical exercise on the threat of a possible terrorist attack with the risk of chemical dispersion in a city. This activity is being organised by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and brings together experts from all CTPN cities and associated agencies.

The CTPN, which Barcelona City Council is a member of, is an international collaboration network focusing on studying the actions of cities which have suffered terrorist attacks. The goal is to learn from these experiences, what worked and what didn’t, and to strengthen the capacity of prevision and reaction in these situations.

To this end, the CTPN offers a shared platform for member cities where various strategic leaders, experts and academics exchange theoretical and practical knowledge and information for cities and their communities to be better prepared to combat terrorism.
