Motorcyclists are the group most at risk of having a road accident in Barcelona. Figures show they are four times more likely to have an accident than car drivers.
Because of this, the City Police are running this campaign launched by the Catalan Traffic Service. The aim is to ensure compliance with the regulations for circulating with motorcycles and mopeds, to reduce the number of accidents as well as the number of victims and the severity of injuries sustained.
The campaign starts today and will run until Sunday, with two sides to it. Firstly, to increase checks and corrective practices in relation to the use of vehicles with two wheels, and secondly, infringements by all other drivers who could cause accidents involving motorcycles and mopeds.
The campaign aims to improve these figures by paying special attention to the use of helmets by riders and passengers alike, as well as documentation for riders and vehicles. There will also be penalties for conduct relating to distractions of different types, inappropriate turns, not respecting traffic lights and any other ostensible form of reckless riding or driving.
