The display by the Mounted Unit will be given at the Escola Municipal d’Hípica de la Foixarda (Montjuïc) on Sunday, 22 September. The exercises ensure the control of this service in public streets and help with the physical and mental state of the horses.
The horse carrousel, a choreography of equestrian figures to the sound of music, starts at 11 am with mounted riders from the City Police in full dress uniform. The display will be given by two units of grey and chestnut-coloured horses.
The Mounted Unit is the oldest section of the City Police. It was set up in 1856 to perform two roles: ceremonial and protocol functions to escort and honour the city flag, authorities and other figures, as well as policing tasks.
Since then, the unit has continued to perform the same tasks, reinventing itself and adapting to society’s needs and gaining international prestige for its carousel display, renowned throughout Europe in the equestrian sphere.
