Safety and prevention. The Mounted Unit marks 166 years of history in 2022 and is the oldest section of the City Police.

The traditional horse carousel, a choreography of equestrian figures set to music, starts at 11.30 with the participation of horses and riders from the City Police kitted out in full dress uniforms. There will also be a display by the dog section at the La Foixarda Municipal Equestrian School.

As the oldest section of the City Police, the Mounted Unit actually marks 166 years of history this year. The unit was set up in 1856 to perform a double role: a ceremonial and protocol function escorting and honouring the city flag, officials and others, and also a police role.

The unit has performed the same tasks since then, reinventing itself and adapting to society’s needs and earning international prestige with its carrousel, renowned Europewide in the equestrian sphere with events held in cities such as London, Vienna, Verona, Brussels and Geneva.

Ahead of the carrousel, at 10.30 am, the dog section will be offering a display where members of the public can see how police dogs work in various situations: defence against possible thieves, detecting drugs and protecting the public.
