The 30th Barcelona Road Safety Forum was held this morning at the CaixaForum, under the title “Artificial intelligence: challenges for road safety”.
The meeting opened with a talk by the philosophy professor Joan Garcia del Muro, who linked artificial intelligence (AI) with sustainability, data privacy, inclusion, respect for human autonomy, establishing responsibilities, reducing accidents and transparency.
The first round table looked at predictive models to move towards safer mobility by anticipating risks, improving traffic management and preventing reckless conduct.
The second session centred on AI in assisted driving and how this technology can not only improve safety, but also experience and efficiency in driving.
To move from theory to practice, the Mossos d’Esquadra police corps presented a practical case: the implementation of DSRC technology to guarantee the control of heavy vehicles on the road network, following safety and sustainable mobility criteria.
Despite all these advantages, the meeting also highlighted the challenges still pending for AI, such as robust ethics and data protection.
The Barcelona Road Safety Forum is organised every year by Barcelona City Council, the Catalan Traffic Service, the RACC and Prevenció d’Accidents de Trànsit, P(A)T.
