Thanks to a joint operation by the City Police and the National Police, a man has been arrested accused of human trafficking for labour exploitation, sexual aggression, injuries and crimes against the rights of workers and foreign nationals.
The operation, which involved the collaboration of the Catalan government’s Work Inspection department, ended up freeing four victims of crimes against foreign nationals and workers’ rights.
The operation was launched in May, when the first of the victims detected was physically assaulted by the man who had hired them, with two customers in the restaurant where they were working having to intervene and provide assistance.
A joint team was formed, made up of Group 4 from the UCRIF Barcelona Provincial Brigade for Foreigners and Borders, the Barcelona City Police Human Trafficking and Exploitation Group and the Catalan government’s Work Inspection department.
As a result of the operation, three other men were detected working in similar circumstances: in irregular administrative situations and victims of crimes against foreign nationals and workers’ rights, as the person detained was also subjecting them to working conditions exceeding those permitted by current labour laws.
