Safety and prevention. The initiative aims to help local governments understand their role in preventing polarisation.

The police corps took part in the virtual presentation of ‘A Guide for Cities: Preventing Hate, Extremism and Polarisation’, created with the collaboration of social leaders and representatives from over a hundred cities around the world, through the Strong Cities Network.

Presented on 29 November, the guide is designed to provide information for a wide variety of public organisations, the idea being to help them understand the role of local government in the prevention of hate, extremism and polarisation.

The guide was created through an extensive consultation process, based on experiences, best practices and advice from over a hundred local leaders and municipal workers, as well as a diverse range of examples of prevention and response strategies headed by cities.

Besides this guide, a similar one was produced for mayors and was presented in new York in September. For more information go to the website for the Strong Cities Network, a global network of municipalities and regions.
