Less noise and inconvenience in the Leisure Triangle

The implementation of measures to combat noise in this area in recent months have reduced noise levels and incidents in the streets. Inspections at nightlife premises and checks on terraces have also been stepped up.

Sound meters have identified a reduction in noise levels in recent months of up to 3 decibels compared to 2022 in residential areas from Wednesdays to Saturdays and on the eve of public holidays. At the same time, the City Police have intervened less in connection with anti-social behaviour and incidents and inconvenience in public streets are down.

Ongoing evaluation

The District of Sant Martí is monitoring the situation and conducting monthly evaluations to drive new measures where needed. One of these has been the installation of four new sound meters in response to local residents, as the plan is being carried out in collaboration with local people in the area and also with owners of nightlife venues.

At the same time, emergency 112 calls relating to alcohol consumption in public spaces have been halved in the same period compared to last year, and calls concerning inconvenience from noise are down by 30%.

Six months in operation

The specific plan for reducing noise in the Leisure Triangle was launched on 1 September 2023. The plan includes restrictions on opening new music venues, bars and shops selling alcohol, stops any more new permits for terraces and applies stricter opening times.

The City Police are also present in the area, carrying out surveillance in public space, working to prevent sexual violence, checking nightlife premises and supervising traffic. Similarly, specific cleaning services have been bolstered and a nighttime mediation service put in place, so far acting in 2,800 instances.
