Medals of merit and plaques of recognition awarded by the City Police for 2020

The Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, chaired the ceremony, which also includes words from the Deputy Mayor for Prevention and Security, Albert Batlle, and the city’s Chief of Police, Pedro Velázquez.

The special annual day for the City Police was due last autumn but was adjourned due to the health situation. Finally, on 2 March, the ceremony to award the medals of merit and plaques for 2020 was held.

The ceremony provided public recognition for the task of various entities and other police corps and emergency services which have played a key role in handling the Covid-19 health crisis. The awards recognise work done to help others, as well as to maintain civic behaviour and security in the city.

The ceremony took place in the Saló de Cent chamber at the City Hall at 5 pm. The Mayor, Ada Colau, chaired the session, which was also streamed on the City Police website.

In all, 38 medals and 12 plaques were awarded to various collectives:

  • Army
  • Judiciary
  • Consulates
  • Barcelona City Council
  • Other public institutions
  • Media
  • Private companies
  • Organisations
  • Citizens
