New campaign by the City Police to avoid distractions while driving

24/04/2023 - 11:45 h

The campaign will be in place all week.

The campaign focuses on infringements linked to a lack of concentration when driving, the inappropriate use of mobile phones or any other communication device or not respecting traffic lights and pedestrian priority.

Distractions at the wheel are one of the main causes of accidents. The use of social media and other mobile apps, as well as the use of headphones, forms part of our daily life and we need to be aware of the risks this brings when it comes to driving or riding vehicles.

Another of the main causes of accidents is not respecting traffic lights, particularly at pedestrian crossings.

This is why the City Police are conducting this specific campaign, aimed reducing accidents resulting from a lack of concentration by drivers and riders and not respecting traffic lights.

It’s worth remembering too that the use of headphones and mobile devices is not allowed when riding bicycles, cycles or any sort of personal mobility vehicle.

Coordinated by the Catalan Traffic Service, the campaign with local police corps and the Mossos d’Esquadra corps will run around the clock from Monday 24 to Sunday 30 April.

The last campaign of this type was conducted in October last year and resulted in 1,203 formal denouncements.
