The City Police are running a new campaign from Monday 12 to Sunday 18 September, aimed at improving passive safety in driving, reducing the number of road accident victims and the severity of injuries they sustain.
The campaign will focus on cases of people who do not use or who incorrectly use passive safety elements: seatbelts, airbags, child restraint systems, headrests and helmets.
The campaign also forms part of the planning and coordination of the Central Traffic Service with local police corps and regional traffic areas operated by the Mossos d’Esquadra police corps.
Infringements
The correct use of seatbelts improves road safety considerably, reducing the number of accident victims and the severity of their injuries. Because of this, the police will be checking drivers’ use of belts, as well as other passengers, denouncing non-compliance once checks show that belts work correctly. It is worth noting that the person responsible for passengers wearing seatbelts is always the driver.
At the same time, checks will also be carried out with riders of motorcycles and mopeds, with the city police to denounce cases where riders do not use safety approved helmets as a passive safety element. Vehicles ridden by people without approved helmets will also be immobilised.
In terms of child restraint systems, checks will ensure that minors who are 135cm tall or less travel with an approved safety system in line with current regulations.
The campaign will also focus on infringements linked to driver documentation and vehicle documentation.
