Special operation by the City Police for the eve of Sant Joan

23/06/2021 - 11:12 h

Safety and prevention. Special attention will be given to places where large numbers of people may converge.

The goal is to ensure a safe celebration and guarantee civic behaviour, coexistence, respect for local people’s hours of rest and compliance with the healthcare measures established by the authorities.

The City Police will be running a citywide operation tonight, paying special attention to places where large numbers of people may converge and ensuring citizens respect all the healthcare measures.

Specifically, the city’s police corps will be tasked with:

  • Avoiding unauthorised sales of food, alcoholic drinks and any other substance which is not permitted.
  • Controlling spots where firewood, timber or other materials are stored which may be used for lighting unauthorised bonfires (mountain area of the city).
  • Establishing preventive breathalysing and drug-testing citywide to avoid driving risks (campaign to run all week).
  • Restricting mobility in certain zones if necessary, to avoid crowding.
  • Avoiding and correcting behaviour which may disturb local residents, or which may disrupt coexistence or degrade public space.
  • Channelling the flow of people arriving at the beach in Barceloneta and facilitating access at each end. Police presence will also be stepped up in this neighbourhood to ensure local people can rest.
  • Controlling the circulation of two-wheeled vehicles for commercial use at the beaches.
  • Clearing the city’s beaches of people from 6 am, in conjunction with the Catalan police (Mossos) and municipal cleaning services. The goal is for bathers to be able to access the beach without any problems early in the morning on Thursday 24.

In addition, the City Police will be actively tracking possible cases of sexist violence on social media via the hashtag #BCNantimasclista, which anybody detecting such situations will be able to use.
