Safety and prevention. The overall goal of the campaign is to reduce traffic accidents and the number of people injured.

The City Police will be conducting a campaign of speed checks between now and 10 April. With speeding as one of the main causes of accidents, the campaign centres on the surveillance, control and reporting of any conduct involving excess speed which may put the safety of road users in risk.

Speed checks will mainly be increased in city streets where accidents have been caused by speeding, with a special emphasis on the specific problems in roads with 30 km/h limits, pedestrian priority and/or streets with curbless paving. The city’s ring roads and fast-access roads will also be a focus for speed checks.

Action will focus on conduct and infringements where established speed limits are broken.
