Safety and prevention. Women make up 39% of the officers in the new intake.

The Institute for Public Security of Catalonia (ISPC) hosted a graduation ceremony this morning for the 95th intake of Barcelona City Police officers. The new intake responds to the municipal government’s efforts to increase the number of officers making up the Barcelona corps and offer citizens better service.

Out of the 238 officers in the new intake, 61% are men (146 officers) and 39% are women (92 officers).

From now on, the new officers (15 of whom are already operative) will start practical placements at different police stations in the city, accompanied by other more experienced officers. Once they have spent a year in service they will become professional public sector workers and named as officers with the Barcelona corps.

The new officers will carry out local policing tasks in the streets, providing support for citizens and strengthening contact with them.

The new intake will be welcomed and receive their badges in a ceremony in the MNAC on Monday, 19 September.
