Safety and prevention. The operation runs until 8 January and pays special attention to public spaces and shopping hubs to prevent petty crime and strengthen road safety during the busy festive season.

The City Police is running an operation to ensure safety, mobility, coexistence and civil behaviour over the festive season. For this first post-pandemic Christmas, free of restrictions, the City Police is stepping up its presence around streets and shopping hubs in the city with 365 officers on duty every day.

Specifically, uniformed and mixed patrols on foot will be intensified in the busiest areas, such as shopping hubs and tourist areas, in coordination with the Mossos d’Esquadra police corps. Neighbourhood Police teams operated by the City Police will be tasked with establishing contact with local representatives and commerce.

Officers will also be carrying out inspections at premises open to the public and pay particular attention to infringements relating to noise, excess capacities and under-age drinking both inside premises and outside. The City Police will be working to ensure that closing times are respected, particularly with terraces.

In an effort to avoid any inconvenience caused by large groups of people in public spaces and unauthorised parties, the City Police will also be monitoring social media more closely and take action in streets, inside venues and homes, to put an end to activities of this nature.

Road safety

Given the expected increase in mobility and the arrival of visitors, officers will be working to guarantee road safety and control infringements which may affect pedestrians. Action will also be taken against double-parked vehicles and those which affect the circulation of public transport.

In parallel, the City Police will also be stepping up breathalyser and drug-driving checks to reduce accidents over a period when there are plenty of celebrations.

Transport and cleaning

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) plans to lay on extra metro and bus services to facilitate fast and safe sustainable mobility in the weeks ahead of the festivities, when the movement of people increases with shopping, recreation and visits.

In addition, a specific street cleaning and waste collection operation for the festive period got under way on 3 December.
