19/05/2023 - 11:54 h

Safety and prevention. Sunday’s run covers much of Avinguda Diagonal.

Barcelona is hosting a family and sports event this weekend, with the Diagonal DiR Guàrdia Urbana fun run to be held on Sunday. Nearly 7,000 runners have signed up to take part.

As usual, this annual 10 km event sees participants run the full length of Barcelona’s Avinguda Diagonal, from the mountain to the sea. The event is open to everyone and is a timed run, adhering to the regulations of the Catalan Athletics federation.

Participants can pick up their runner’s bag, shirt and number bib at the Runners Fair, which is on today and Saturday at Diagonal DiR (Ganduxer, 25). The City Police will also be at the fair, offering a series of children’s activities:

  • Today, Friday, craft workshop and vehicle display, from 4 pm to 8 pm.
  • Tomorrow, Saturday, craft workshop and vehicle display, from 9 am to 3 pm; workshop with the Mounted Unit, 12 noon to 1 pm; workshop and display by the Dog Team, from 10.30 am to 11.30 am.

Tomorrow brings the Cursa KIDS, as from 10.30 am around the Parc Piscines i Esports (next to the Runners Fair). The run is open to children born between 2010 and 2018 (alone), and between 2019 and 2022 8accompanied by a legal guardian).

Disruptions to mobility

The event sets off from Av. Diagonal, 686, in front of the Palau Reial de Pedralbes, and ends at Passeig García Faria, just before the junction with C/ Selva de Mar. This year’s run takes in some sections of C/ Valènica and Passeig de Gràcia to adapt to the work being carried out in Av. Diagonal.

The map of the route is available here.

Traffic will be unable to circulate anywhere on the route while the event is in progress. Drivers are advised to use the city’s ring roads, the Ronda de Dalt, the Ronda del Litoral and the Ronda del Mig, for journeys crossing or using part of Av. Diagonal.

Sunday also brings some road closures and traffic diversions as from 5 am at certain points, with traffic flow inverted:

  • From Av. Diagonal to Camí Antic de Valencia
  • From C/ Bilbao to Av. Diagonal
  • In Av. Diagonal, on the side nearest the sea, from C/ Còrsega to Rambla Catalunya
