Round table on the trans law. Thursday 30 March, at 6 pm

As part of International Transgender Day of Visibility, the LGBTI Centre is organising a round table to talk about rights, laws and struggles relating to trans* identities, on Thursday, 30 March, at 6 pm.

International Transgender Day of Visibility is on 31 March, offering a day to discover the trans reality and gain greater awareness against discrimination towards trans people.

Here at the Barcelona LGBTI Centre we’re organising a round table to discuss the recently approved trans law, as well as recognised rights and the struggles that remain for trans identities*. The session is on Thursday, 30 March, at 6 pm, and forms part of the cycle at the LGBTI Centre entitled “Our bodies are battlefields”.

The last year has been marked by the struggle for the approval of the so-called trans law* in the Spanish parliament. Meetings, assemblies, drafts, negotiations, proposals, cutbacks, demonstrations, appeals, needs and demands have all helped to lay out the path towards the parliamentary debate.

But what advances does this law represent?  What limitations or shortcomings are there in the text?

In the round table we’ll be sharing journeys that take different parts of the same struggle as their starting point.

The participants are:
Judith Juanhuix, scientist, marginal feminist, pro-indy, trans, writer, talk shop participant, mother, troublemaker.
Erik Silva, trans feminist activist, visual creator, constantly learning.
Personaje Personaje, physiotherapist, performer, critical thinker, carer, presenter and orator.

Remember this round table is open to everybody until capacity is reached and that it includes interpretation in Catalan sign language.
