Technical working sessions are being held today and tomorrow, with the Barcelona Fire Service and the City Police taking part, to improve prevention and safety in places of worship and large religious gatherings.
The goal of the project, which ends in April 2025, is to develop a technological platform which identifies vulnerabilities, suggests scenarios with specific threats and offers recommendations to mitigate these in places of worship and religious gatherings.
Various scenarios will be introduced for analysing different possible attacks. These will take the form of simulations to virtually explore in 4D the different attack scenarios and assess the effectiveness of the mitigation measures proposed. The result will be a system of technological and organisational modules which cover current safety and protection needs in places of worship and large religious gatherings.
The project also has the goal of establishing stable and enriching collaboration between religious leaders, public security forces, local communities and others. Public and private bodies from eight countries will be taking part, including various units from the City Police. The last meetings were held in Brussels, in May, and in Greece, in June.
