Information session on forest fire prevention for residents in Vallidrera

22/05/2023 - 10:59 h

Safety and prevention. The Barcelona Fire Service will be giving a talk on Thursday, 25 May.

The goal of the session is to explain the role of the Barcelona Fire Service in preventing and extinguishing forest fires, as well as to raise people’s awareness about the part they play in preventing fires and minimising possible consequences.

In this respect, while the emergency services have a wealth of experience and are more resilient, the best way of tackling forest fires it to prevent them from happening, as in most cases they are the result of human activity.

All the mountain neighbourhoods have self-protection plans, which are explained in these types of talks. The plans set out how to respond to fires, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, so that people know who to turn to and how to react efficiently and even evacuate residents if necessary.

Those attending the meeting will also receive information on the operational response to forest fires by the fire service and the work carried out every year as part of the forest fire prevention campaign. Operational resources are bolstered during the summer months to provide a swift and efficient response to forest fires, with preventive patrols, checks on fire hydrants etc.

The talk is being given at the Espai Cultural Mercat de Vallvidrera (C/ Elisa Moragas i Badia, 2) on 25 May, at 6 pm.

How can we protect ourselves against forest fires?

Maximum caution and collaboration are needed from the general public during the hottest months. As from 15 March, forestry tasks or any activity which could generate sparks within 500 metres of woodlands are prohibited. This includes barbecues and burning waste.

Remember! If you detect a forest fire, call 112 and supply as much information as possible. If you have the My112 app your location can also be identified when you call.
