International new rose competition
Coinciding with the rose blooming season, Barcelona City Council organises the Barcelona International New Roses Competition, which takes place in the Roserar gardens in Cervantes park.
This competition is internationally renowned. The roses entered have been created by plant breeders from crosses between existing roses. Therefore, these varieties have never been seen before and have not yet been commercialised. A reserved area in the gardens of the Roserar brings together the prize-winning roses of each edition.
2023 edition
This year, the 23rd International Rose Competition will be held on the weekend of 12-14 May. Everyone can visit the rose garden and vote for the roses they consider to be the best.

History
The Barcelona International New Rose Competition was founded in 2001 to promote the rose garden and raise its public profile, faithful to Barcelona’s rose tradition dating back to the early 20th century.
In addition to the voting for the Citizens’ Rose, there is an international jury and a standing committee made up of professionals from the world of gardening and rosebushes, as well as creators from other disciplines, the members of which change every year.
