Companies and Independent Bodies

For the development of specialized services and in accordance with more flexible regulations, the city council has a number of public bodies assigned to Ecology, Urban Planning and Mobility area. They are entities approved by resolution of the municipal council to fulfill specific purposes and they have legal identity and separate assets. They make possible the management of certain specialized services different from those managed by the general competencies of the city council. Thanks to them a more flexible and autonomous management is achieved.

BCASA is responsible for the management of the water cycle in Barcelona; BIMSA and Municipal Institute of Urban Planning manage and execute works of urban transformation; Institut del Paisatge Urbà (Institute for Urban Landscape) promotes, preserves, enhances and disseminates the urban landscape of the city while Patronat Municipal de l'Habitatge (Municipal Housing Board) promotes social housing for groups in vulnerable situations.
