Sound Pollution Reduction Plan and Environmental data maps
The European Union established Directive 2002/49/EC, relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise, for the purposes of creating a common Community policy in the fight against noise.
One of the principles endorsed in Spain's Royal Decree 1513/ 2005 is the obligation for all cities with over 250 million residents to make a Strategic Noise Map, which must be updated periodically. The information collected is submitted to the European Union and made available to the citizenship through the Environmental data maps.
