Over 50% of Barcelona schools at all levels (early years education for children 0–6; primary, secondary and post-compulsory secondary education; vocational training, adult education, special education and adapted programmes) participate in the More Sustainable Schools (Escoles + Sostenibles) programme.

Through this competition, the programme recognises educational projects which address the following goals: 

• Strengthen education for sustainability through firm support for educational communities seeking to introduce social and environmental improvements in their schools.
• Improve the surrounding environment and the city in general to the extent that they are able.
• Reinforce environmental practices at schools.
• Other goals specified in the call for submissions.

Please bear in mind that:

• Each school can submit one project only.
• There are two types of awards: one for projects lasting one academic year (annual projects), and the other for those with a duration of three academic years (three-year projects).
• Schools that are currently in their first or second year of a three-year project cannot submit any projects.
• In the annual project category, no main awards can be given to schools that have won such awards in the past two editions, but they may receive a secondary award or an honourable mention.
• No more than one award that includes a cash prize may be granted to the same project or beneficiary.
