The Montserrat Roig Awards for Journalism and Social Communication in Barcelona, called by the Municipal Council for Social Welfare, aim to stimulate, promote and encourage better information and better coverage of social issues in the media. The awards recognise the best work presented in each type of media, in accordance with the categories and criteria established in the terms and conditions.
Entries must focus on the city of Barcelona in terms of subject matter, target audience or impact framework.
The Montserrat Roig Awards for Journalism and Social Communication in Barcelona include seven prizes, divided into four categories:
- A first and a second prize in the social journalism category.
- A first and a second prize in the social communication category.
- Two prizes in the category for the promotion of journalistic research in the field of social rights and social action.
- One special jury prize.
Only public or private natural or legal persons with Spanish nationality or resident in Spain can enter.
Submissions may be made individually or collectively, with the express acknowledgement of authors and media organisations connected to the proposals.
Authors or media organisations can opt for more than one award category but they may only receive an award in one category.
Participants must complete the electronic participation form available on the website: https://www.barcelona.cat/premis-montserrat-roig/es/.
The participation slip generated by this form, together with the required documentation, must be registered at Barcelona City Council's General Register. This is in accordance with Law 39/15, of 1 October, and reference regulations regarding the rights and obligations of interacting electronically with the public administrations.

• In person at any of Barcelona City Council's General Register offices, in an envelope or folder stating the following: Area for Social Rights, Health, Cooperation and Community, Department of Social Participation, “Montserrat Roig Awards for Journalism and Social Communication in Barcelona”, indicating the award category you are applying for. When the entry is submitted by a natural person representing a group of authors, this should be indicated when registering the application form through an authorisation document duly signed by the representatives, accompanied by photocopies of said representatives’ Spanish national identity document (DNI).
All procedures carried out in person at the Citizen Help and Information Offices (OAC) are by appointment only, and appointments can be booked via the link: http://ajuntament.barcelona.cat. The application submission period begins the day after the publication of the call for entries in the Official Province Gazette. Entries can be submitted within a period of 20 working days counting from the first day of the submission period.
