Last update:

The prize recognises an outstanding international career in science and research, with a positive impact in various fields and on the overall well-being of humanity.

The prize runs in three-year cycles and alternates between three main areas of knowledge, one per edition:

a) science and technology

b) life sciences and health

c) humanities and social sciences

This call for submissions aims to continue with the second three-year cycle of the prize, covering the humanities and social sciences category.

The choice of “Hypatia” as the name of the prize is intended to highlight the philosopher and scientist Hypatia of Alexandria (c. 355-415), a woman who was able to combine and transmit all the fields of knowledge of her time and who, for that very reason, was murdered by the forces of ignorance and fanaticism.

The prize is for natural persons in the field of research who:

  • Have mainly carried out their research career in a European country.
  • Have achieved excellence in their research career at the highest international level.
  • Have a career within the field of the humanities and social sciences.

The application period will remain open for two months following the publication of this call in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB).

Applications must be submitted using the official presentation form, which is available on the Barcelona City Council website and the Academia Europaea Barcelona Hub website, also known as the Barcelona Knowledge Hub. Specifically at https://aebarcelona.eu/en/barcelona-hypatia-european-scienceprize/.
