Barcelona City Council

Retailers’ associations and Barcelona City Council are working closely together to promote local commerce in the city through a series of initiatives for the Christmas campaign. The goal is to generate a seasonal atmosphere and promote traditional cultural, recreational and commercial activities for that time of year, creating a festive feel that helps improve the image of the city streets over the Christmas period. This ongoing collaboration is necessary as a consequence of the current post-pandemic economic recovery and the general increase in prices, with the effects this has for the city’s retail trade.

To carry on giving support to these retail initiatives in Barcelona, the City Council is offering subsidies for Christmas lights again this year, thus helping to promote local commerce at that time of year by creating a festive atmosphere and improving the city’s image.

The application period is open from 24 May to 21 June 2023 (inclusive). Any applications made outside this period will not be accepted. Applications should be made online using the City Council’s procedures website.

The deadline for presenting justification of the subsidised activity is 31 March 2024.
