Safety and prevention. The City Police located a flat in the Eixample district where five dogs, a cat and two chinchillas were living in atrocious conditions.

City Police officers from the Eixample Territorial Unit have rescued five dogs, a cat and two chinchillas living unattended to and in dismal hygiene and health conditions in a flat in the Eixample district.

City Police officers checked the state of a home in a building in the Eixample district after neighbours complained of a stench coming from it. Upon entering, they found five dogs, a cat and two chinchillas in very poor hygiene and health conditions. The officers found the animals living among dirt and excrement, their owner having long since ceased to care for them.

The owner told them that none of the animals was registered, that they did not have ID microchips and that they were not taken for walks because of the current health crisis.

Given the situation, the officers denounced the owner on twenty counts for non-compliance with the by-law on the protection, ownership and sale of animals. The officers took the animals away so that the various animal care services, such as the Barcelona Pet Shelter, could take them in.
